The "Magnetic" Critter Control

7/21/2014

After years of operating our line of Critter Controls, a few thoughts came to mind ...
Most of our "operations" are just continuous running. We always run at the same speed and direction (forward). All we really need to do is start and stop the loco, and watch it make automated station stops while enjoying a beverage or talking with visitors.

The Magnetic Critter Control meets that criteria. Starting/Stopping is done using a magnet to activate a reed switch hidden under the roof of the cab. So, no need to cut any holes or hide any knobs. The loco will accelerate and decelerate at a controlled rate during manual start/stops and for station stops. Both rate and running speed are user adjustable via pots located on the circuit board. Once adjusted to the desired speeds, there should be no reason to use them again.

Like the Enhanced Critter Control, automated station stops are available via track magnets. The user has the choice of either 100% stops or 50% random stops at power-up.

There is no built-in reverse, but that can easily be added, if desired,  using a DPDT switch in series with the motor output.

The result is a simple to operate, simple to install control, lower cost control that takes up less space.

I have seen the operation of your enhanced critter control which included a reversing function. I see you no longer offer this item, do you have any left for sale? Love to get one if possible.
You talk about the reversing switch, but this would have to be done manually? Correct?

Yes, it is manual. You can still get the back 'n forth function for trolley operation with our Hobby RailBoss or RailBoss 4 products, both of which are R/C. If I get enough requests for the old Enhanced Critter Control I may have to revive it. (None left now).

Thanks Del.
If it helps you can put me down for 2 of the units. I like the idea of a train running on it's own with no need of the R/C.
Not sure how the railboss works, so I will look and read about it. I am new to the hobby so I tend to get excited about everything!
